The most noticeable thing about Sierra Nevada brews is that they are all extremely hoppy. Perhaps that explains why about half of their brews are barely average (i.e. the Porter and Stout), yet the other half (including their seasonals) are arguably the best of the best, in every category. Their Bigfoot Barleywine is perhaps the finest microbrewed barleywine, competing only with Rogue's Old Crustacean. And their Celebration Ale is one of the finest winter ales, right up there with Pyramid Snow Cap. Their Summerfestis quite tasty as well, although not up to par with their other seasonals.
Recently they started mass-shipping their Wheat Beer, which was a welcome change since it definitely makes up for their Porter and Stout, which both suck.* It is a delicious, hearty hefeweizen that is quite heavy compared to other hefeweizens. Their Pale Ale, probably their most popular beer, is widely-available on tap, making it a good dinner or bar drink.
*Note: If anyone from Sierra Nevada is reading - yes, your Porter and Stout really do suck. That's ok, they can't all be winners.
